cute read!! really fast paced torwards the end though, not really my cup of tea but I can commend the author's for their skilled writing and beautiful artwork
my second book on "the tumultuous political climate of Iran" (Layla's English IO 2023)
I can't begin to write about how heart-wrenching, honest, raw, introspective and informative this graphic novel was for me. it just had so many layers, so many witty quips from the narrator, and subtle symbolism that could be easy to miss. I honestly might reread it, it's that good.
the theme of this book , disordered eating, is so important. I've suffered with body dysnorphia for a good part of my life and the struggles of it were depicted amazingly through Val's character. I think purging as an eating disorder is less talked about in books in comparison to anorexia, so its cool that this book did. the cover art is ethereal, and so is the rest of the art in this graphic novel. I liked the characters and the plot was cute, i just feel like it was a pretty predictable read , with the writing being very sparse and "basic" for lack of a better term. however Val's relationship with her mom made me cry, books touching on immigrant family relationships will never cease to make me bawl 😀
I can't help comparing all of Sally Rooney's books to each other, though I'm unsure if I should. So far, my least favorite has been Conversations with Friends, but I can't decide if I liked this book more or less than Normal People. What I can say is that this book was tender and introspective, exploring the deepest crevices of relationship dynamics in the modern age. I found Felix to be a sort of Nick Carroway, observing these dynamics, which is why throughout the book he has grown to be my favorite character. The email portions were cool ways of developing on themes outside of the main plots between Alice and Felix and Eileen and Simon, and they revealed more about the characters than the remainder of the novel, in my opinion. I really only feel like the book got better around Lola's wedding, so before that I was sorta bored. Also I realized I am not a sex scene girly (at least not Sally Rooney sex scenes)

cute read!! a really diverse range of characters, we love to see it!! the art is super prettyy.I read it in 30 min, it was a blissful break from "beautiful world, where are you". expect many more short books/ graphic novel reads cuz idk if I will fulfill my reading goal this year 😵
i read a couple mythology sections (some Greek, Hindu, inuit ) but i just got real bored and didn't love the format (too many facts and images condensed on one page). I think i just want to get back to reading a novel and felt the need to read this book cuz i own it lol (and haven't read it since i was 12)
Also sidenote, INUIT MYTHOLOGY IS WILD 😭 it almost always includes humans marrying some sort of animal but it's also pretty interesting

no plot, just vibes very funky comic, i love the art and think it would make a cool shirt for a skater/stoner boy (or me :) ) a very simple but not necessarily mindless read, i would argue it has some deeper meaning.
