336 pages, or 11 1/2 hours of agoraphobic nightmares that bend into claustrophobia and hopelessness, a good house for children reels you in from the first page and doesn’t let you go, even after you’ve finished the book. taking place over 2 time lines; 1976 and 2018, you’re thrust into a world of heartbreak and discomfort. one minute you’re enthralled in the mystery and the next, you’re holding your breath from the scares. this takes the mystery genre and melds it perfectly with horror and thriller. A house with room to grow on its face, an entire character of its own on another level. This book will have you unsure of what to do, who to hate, and what’s going on. The terror of a woman’s agency, motherhood, grief, and the wanting to be a perfect wife and mother are all present here. a five star read to round off the halloween season.
