The Bone Shard Daughter, by Andrea Stewart
Did not finish book. Stopped at 11%.

I’m going to keep this simple, I do not like the writing style. It is just not for me, but I don’t doubt that if you enjoy how this author writes this has the potential to be a very good book.
Jade City, by Fonda Lee
This book was something I have never read before. It was so unique in so many ways, and that is what kept me reading for the first half since it was a bit slow in my opinion.
Following the multiple point of views of each Kaul family member, the story builds on itself beautifully and never feels as though you are being over dumped with information, an emotional very common with epic fantasy.
The story itself sprinkles in just enough Lore that pairs well with the Urban fantasy world Fonda Lee created. Lee did an amazing job throughout the book to break up the lengthy political parts with shocking events that turned the story on its head and took our characters in another direction.
The characters in this book feel real. The emotions they have, the differences in their personality, and their inevitable human flaws gave me as a reader the feeling these people existed not just in their world, but my own (minus the really cool jade super human powers)
I absolutely cannot wait to read Jade War and Jade Legacy in 2022.

Spoiler
One particular part of the story, when Lan falls off the peer into the ocean, and the next chapter starts in Shae’s point of view, it felt his death wasn’t what I wanted it to be. It was abrupt, I thought we had more time with Lan, to see him beat his SN1 addiction and become the Pillar he was previously. As I see now with finishing the book, his death was a necessary move that now I believe was well executed. The character development by the rest of family made more sense because of what happened, then if Lan had died any other way.I absolutely cannot wait to read Jade War and Jade Legacy in 2022.
