This was my first step into the Cosmere and I am very excited to continue on this journey. Brandon Sanderson has a knack with his writing that draws you in as if you were apart of the book itself, I found myself laughing and yelling at characters throughout and each character had their own identity that felt real and their own, there were often POV changes where you were getting to see in real time how the other side of an interaction had felt to each character and in often hilarious and frustrating ways. I would absolutely recommend this book to someone looking to start the Cosmere. I think that anyone who is a fan of Fantasy, enjoys a robust world built around them, and enjoys a good rebellious plot will love this book.
I have wanted to put this book down since 20 pages in. The Authors use of derogatory slurs is completely unnecessary to the plot, the author is inconsistent with spellings of names of characters as well as constantly using their full names any time they're referenced. The tone of the author's writing is just rude.. it was a book set in Florida and sounded like it.. I will never pick up another book by this author.
I really enjoyed this cute story. I think I'm an older audience for this so I almost put it down but I'm glad I didn't. I think the writer did a great job at expressing how big the feelings we have at that age can be and did a great job of showcasing some of the challenges of navigating relationships with parents after a divorce. I found myself easily able to relate back to a time when I probably could have used this book as a teen. It was cute and I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a cute YA rom-com with the fake relationship trope.
