Incredibly unpleasant to listen to.

Watching a couple become CO dependant on each other while one is still very clearly manipulating the other is not for me.

I really wanted to like this, but it never grabbed me.

The tagline "polyamorous relationships with a water nymph" is a great hook to read this book. I recommend that you do read this book; it simply wasn't for me. The dissonance in time period and available technology kept tripping me up.

Maybe I'll try again with the audiobook.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC, all opinions are my own.

This was a delightful way to see all of Jane Austen's characters again in a setting that seems plausible.
Although I haven't read all of Austen's books I thoroughly enjoyed getting to experience the interactions between characters from different books and the potential futures their lives could have taken after the original story.

I think most of us can agree that Mr Wickham is a dastardly character and it's easy to believe he began scheming and blackmailing friends and family in order to keep enough money in his own pocket. This story imagines just such a scenario and the brutal end that George Wickham finds at a house party hosted by The Knightlys - George and Emma.

An unlikely pair of detectives on the case is Jonathan Darcy (The Darcy's eldest son) and Juliet Tilney (daughter of Northanger Abbey's Catherine and Mr Tilney) who take it upon themselves to solve the case even though society would see it as a scandal.

I look forward to seeing this amateur pair of detectives again in book two.
