It was too long. I was feeling a 5-star review until I was about 2/3 finished with the book. It does have some beautifully poetic chapters, wonderful insight, and creative storytelling.

This book is also for beginners! As a beginner/newcomer to the practice(s), it was helpful. I listened to the audiobook, which was narrated well by the author, and then I bought the book for reference. I appreciated the information on rock/crystal hardness, the information about closed practices and herbs to avoid for conservation purposes, and the explanation of sigils.

As a *very* beginner, this was super helpful in orienting me to the new world of wicca/witchcraft. It's exactly what you would expect/hope from a beginner book.

Very slow. Very Ishiguro. Interesting concept, though, and reading it in French gave me enough motivation to finish it.

In typical French (language) lit style, it's a slow burn.

Down from 5 stars because of the inconsistency in storytelling (lots of skimming through parts of life that would be interesting to hear more about, and then dwelling in other areas when we've already gotten what we were going to get out of that) and some clunky writing.
