I didn’t know what to expect from this new to me author and her book ‘Hot Hex Boyfriend’ but I do love a good witchy read. The plot line had me intrigued, a family hexed to not be able to do magic and warlocks watching over them so they don’t break that hex. Delia has been blessed with fairy magic but she feels her life is cursed until she unwittingly breaks the hex that has plagued her family and begins falling for the prickly warlock next door, Max, who turns out to be a golden retriever MMC. As the truth comes out about why the family was hexed Max rushed to save her magic and their budding relationship.

I really loved the progression of Max and Delia’s relationship and their interplay with both of their families was really fun. I loved how Max’s perspectives on witchcraft changed the more he knew about Delia’s situation and how open minded he was as well as how quick he was to come to Delia’s defence. Also, I liked the mystery element to the story towards the end. I found the story slow at the beginning and it was a very drawn out romance before they finally got together which I didn’t enjoy as much. Overall I really enjoyed this and I will definitely look to read from this author again, maybe a sequel for Amy and Luc’s story?!

I love a good witchy romance and as we end out the month of August, this book spoke to me. I really liked the premise of the book, a witch using a computer nerd friend or find her father while dealing with the grief of her Nan being terminally ill. I loved Merle as an MMC, he was understanding, supportive and steady. Liberty was also unashamedly herself and I really enjoyed that. Her found family of witch sisters were also great.

Where I struggled with this book is in how slowly the story moved forward. I also found the writing style to be a bit choppy and awkward in my opinion at times and the descriptions dragged on. I really had to work to finish the story as it did not hook me throughout. I did enjoy reading parts of this book but it’s not one I will probably go back and read again.

The premise of “Worst in Show” caught my attention from the first time I read the synopsis. I wanted to like this book and I did, but I also have some conflicting feelings about the main characters especially the MMC, Leo. Cora is helping her grand father run his shop and trying to save it from ruin when Leo moves in across the street with a new pet store of his own. Cora is on defense with him from the start and his arrogant attitude doesn’t help. He does seem to like Cora though and tries to make amends for bad behavior. That is how they end up training their dogs together. From this emerges a friendship both canine and human.

I really loved the secondary characters and the dogs in this story. They had me bursting out with laughter numerous times. The chemistry between the MC’s was great as was their banter and overall I was rooting for them to figure stuff out. Having said that Leo was a tough one to like at times. He was a victim of his upbringing but some of the ways he treated Cora gave me the ick’s and I struggled to like him. The book was a slow burn and took a few chapters to get into it for me as well. Once I was past the first few slow chapters I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. Overall, not my favourite book but certainly an enjoyable read in general.
