As always Madeline Miller delivers. Her writing style is a delight, it's comforting and you can tell she puts a lot of work into it. I was absolutely captivated the moment I started reading, Circe was such a compelling character no matter where she was. I was rooting for her the entire time. The side characters were also compelling, I was particularly excited to see Odysseus, but I was surprised how interest she made the others too. I think the book's best quirk was the complexity between all of Circe's relationships, it was so fun to read.

I'd also like to give it props for how it portrayed SA. I was afraid that it would change Circe's completely, completely rewriting her to be weak and scared, but no! It was handled extremely well! I like that it shows that trauma doesn't need to tie you down. I appreciate it!

All that aside I was extremely disappointed in the ending.
I found it morbid that Circe hooked up with Telemachus. Y'know? Her past lover's son. Icks all over the floor and sky. Wtf? Why was that necessary. And the daydreams she had of them having kids? Yuck, no.

Yes.

Madeline at it again with her gut wrenching stories😔 I couldn't put this one down, I was glued to it. It was dark, morbid, and I'm realizing that's my type of shit despite what I believed. It's a little bit more raw than her previous works, so that was jarring at first.

My copy had a little note from Madeline, which just made me love her and this work more.

I still cannot stop thinking about this book help me

I absolutely adored the ending! It reminded me of those dark fairytales (Little Mermaid esque). I think it's a perfect conclusion, and absolutely metal as hell, which is the shit I love.

If you like Death Note you'll enjoy this too. The puzzles were puzzling for sure! Made my head spin a few times but it was enjoyable, fun. Even made me laugh a few times, surprisingly. I really felt drawn to all the characters, even the murderer. And I'm SUPER glad Naomi was the protagonist. Ever since I saw her in the manga I needed more :(

Author still has iffy ways of drawing black characters.

Other than that there's no issues, except some jokes people might find offensive (like Mustang's reasons for becoming President or the way Hawkeye trains her dog). But that depends on your tastes.

Captain Nemo deserved a better ending though. Like.. after all that mystery and buildup ya just leave em at his organ screaming, and he's suddenly attached to the characters? Make it make sense Jules.

Fun read though, if you can ignore how much he loves to flex his biology and geography knowledge.
