I think this would have been just as good without the paranormal element, but I get that it is an integral part of the story as it is written.

Not gonna lie… this book was eerily similar to From Blood and Ash. Especially the beginning - you easily could have swapped out Poppy and Isolde and the events would have been almost the same. That being said, I still did really enjoy this book, and I’m looking forward to seeing some of the lore behind the Coven and some more backstory.

Meh. I don’t think a good chunk of these stories - especially the ones in the beginning - are that scary, more so just a bit disturbing (which I guess is also an element of horror).

Thank you to the publisher for providing this book via Goodreads giveaways! Unfortunately, I just couldn’t get into this book - I gave it more time that usual with books I DNF, but it just felt like WAYYYYYY too much was happening and I didn’t really feel compelled by any of the characters. This one just isn’t for me!

I think I liked this book? The ending definitely leaves me with a few questions, which is probably the point.

We love a darker sequel a la AGGGTM! I will say that at times I think handling 2 cases made some details be mentioned/discussed a bit too briefly to really make sense of what was happening, but the girls trying to solve the Mona Moody/Clifford Hayes debacle first actually makes sense. It reminds me of something Henry said the Shawn on the TV show Psych about him needing to solve the older case before the newer one but the specifics are eluding me, lol.

So good! Usually when a story is told in multiple points of view with all of them using "I," I have a hard time keeping the characters separate. However, that was not a problem for me in this book because the two characters were so distinct in tone and were really nicely fleshed out. I also liked that it was a bit more realistic in them keeping their doubts about each of the suspects because sometimes I find that some books have it just a bit too much with having the characters putting all their eggs in one basket without having any reservations. Overall this was an excellent read and I'm excited to see what mysteries await us in the sequel!

This was really good! At first all of the different time settings gave me a bit of whiplash, but I fell into the groove of it pretty quickly. I also think the ending was a teeny bit anti climactic, but overall a great story that kept me on my toes for the whole read.
