oh my. SO HOT. one of the spiciest books i’ve read in a minute. loved the characters and the dynamics within the relationship. gasped and laughed at several moments. very pleased with the ending.

did not enjoy the drama from the fmc, but i understood where she was coming from.

i’ll admit, once the story picked up, it was hard to put down. overall, however, the writing/character development/realistic relationship building wasn’t what i expected (in a bad way) considering how popular this book has been on BookTok, etc. i felt like there were missing steps as relationships were forming, and some behavior felt unwarranted given the timeline of the story. wouldn’t read again, i don’t think.

i loved the story and the historical information that it provided about asylums and mental health over centuries. had moments when the writing pulled me out of the story, but they were just moments and i enjoyed it nonetheless.

loved this as a sequel! saw some real character growth and struggle in this one, which was great. some frustrating/immature character elements, which makes sense given the age of the characters.

this is my second time reading through this book, and i really think it’s the best one of the series. the character growth and the story and the feel of the characters is one of my favorites.
