This book was seriously so much fun, I finished in a day. I love Merida’s story arc and the way she changes, and changes her fate. She is brash and learns so much. She is wise and kind and good. She’s just a really beloved character for me.
And something I DID NOT EXPECT— the enemies to lovers storyline between her parents is THE BEST VIBES EVER. I love a good time travel book as much as the next person, but the implications in this were a lot of fun, and the tension between these two was seriously great.
I would love to see more of them. But seeing what I saw was so so good. Also, this was a dual POV with Eleanor and Merida. So fantastic.
This book was beautiful in the way that all of Jimenez’s books are. It’s tears you up a bit as the characters grow into the best version of themselves, it delves into the nuances of a real relationship and how those come about and the complexities in them, and then it somehow crescendos into something that puts you back together.
I loved that the characters grew with each other, but ultimately, that they grew apart from one another as well. They are individuals and they decide to love one another. They show compassion where there could be frustration and anger, and they give the reader the sense that they, too, could overcome what plagues their hearts and minds. It was beautiful. A book that will make you swoon, and laugh, and cry.
