this book was simply just not for me, and i feel bad for knocking points off but maybe if someone like me is reading this review, it could help

firstly, i keep somehow reading contemporary literature when i don’t even like the genre—which is my fault. it’s a good genre for audiobooks tho

anyways, the reason i picked this book up in the first place is that i am someone who does not like kids and the thought of being a mother fills me with intense loathing and dread. and because of this i like reading books about mothers and daughters. i like reading about emotions i will never/can never feel. and most of them have been successes. i enjoyed reading about these things, i think because the other books are about the RELATIONSHIP

but for this book, i just couldn’t care. a lot of the book revolves around being pregnant and losing pregnancy. not about the child and mother relationship. for me, i couldn’t care about any of the mothers because i cannot find it in me to care about pregnancy struggles and i fail to understand the emotional toll of a miscarriage. callous i know but it’s my truth.

i really liked marisol’s story tho. would like a book just about her

i know im in the minority, people don’t pick up a book like this because they DONT relate to motherhood, but it doesn’t stop my emotions about it being any less real

i am working my way through brandersons bibliography, and from his own words, he said to read this and warbreaker after mistborn (still waiting for warbreaker to be available from the library). i hate to say it tho but the author is wrong!! i feel like i would've gotten a lot more out of it after reading more of the cosmere-not that i disliked it by any means
the way branderson writes his twists to be so obvious but you never expect them-UGH it's tew good.
i am DEFINITELYYYY coming back to this book after i finish the rest of the cosmere to 1) better appreciate The LoreTM and 2) to also see the foreshadowing even better.
very happy i found this author he's just a genius i fear

realized it wasn’t living up to my standards and didn’t much like the writing style. would rather just listen to a book review/summary than spend the time reading

i feel like if i enjoyed this genre i would’ve really loved this book, but unfortunately i’m just not if fan of contemporary fiction. that being said, the end had me hooked. i audiobooks this and i had to put it on 2x speed by the end to consume it as fast as my heart desired.

the ending left me kind of upset. i get the point of the book but still, i hate seeing characters i like not win in the end. will those two characters ever meet again? will the secret ever be revealed? i wish i could’ve read it instead of leaving it up to the imagination.

anyways, if you like this genre, definitely pick it up.
