this book was so cool??? a while ago i signed up for a book club where we could pick a book from three options, and one of them was a book i already owned, so i picked that one. sadly not enough others did too so this was the outcome. i wasn’t really looking forward to it because i remembered a jack edwards video from a few years ago where he wasn’t very enthusiastic about it. however… i am!!! i couldn’t stop reading and wanted to skip my other responsibilities to read this. it’s a lovely story that combines vague casual fantasy elements with friendships and mental illness in children. it had cool foreshadowing and special elements and the ending left me speechless. would recommend this as a comforting but also enlightening read <3

the best thing about this book is that nynke read it to me <3

very cute, also a bit nostalgic since some of my friends performed a bit of this book as a play, so i kept seeing their faces as mole and rat ant otter :)

i completely forgot about this storyline. which is horrible because i had already read it (in 2016 in dutch) and i have actually seen the play!!!! but i don't remember anything besides our limited view seats making the clock that turns invisible so the time turner aspect was very confusing and there were dementors. but i actually really like the story? i like the alternative universes and what could have happened, that's something i really like in general. the characters are interesting but i do sometimes feel like we've lost some of the character's personality for the sake of the story.

just finished this one and now i’m sad. i haven’t read the last two books in so long i had forgotten about so many of the details. even some deaths shocked me again haha. it’s such a good last book in a series though! i think it could’ve been a bit more stretched out and even though it would kill me i do think the pain of certain deaths would hit and sting more if there was a bit more of a recovery story after the battle and they’re no longer there anymore. on the other hand, the ending of the storyline (not taking the flashforward into account) is very strong, i like that nobody really knows where the survivors go and what goes on in the aftermath. i am quite in disbelief of how many literal teenagers survived the battle though, but oh well, i’m happy to think about how they could’ve lived long and happy lives.
anyways i wish i could read 37283 more of these books, i’ve fallen in love with the series all over again. this time specifically with the side characters and their lives and the relationships and bonds between the hogwarts students - like dean and luna’s friendship that developed in the last book, but also the kids in dumbledore’s army that we hear about throughout multiple books, like hannah abbott and susan bones, terry boot and ernie macmillan, etc etc

i'm just giving every one of these books a 5 star rating because i don't want to think about it too much haha. however i do get why this is the least liked book in the series - it was better in my memory. this one is mostly preparation for the next one with some random extra elements. i thought there was more lore in it :( it was a quick read and i did enjoy some more life at hogwarts stories though.

my favourite! i honestly don’t know if it’s still my favourite, because this one didn’t stand out immensely (except for in size). however i love that this one is so long and there’s so many things happening. it makes it more real. i love all the details and little hints and friendships an the rise of ginny, luna and neville. however, i had forgotten how annoyingly they’re all going through puberty in this one haha.

if i’m honest i think the movie execution of the time travel is perfect - reading about that part after having seen it so many times was kind of a letdown. i do like that this book has so many little secrets and storylines and it isn’t constantly about voldemort but also about the progression of their friendships and school business and going from childhood to being teenagers. very excited to be going to my two favourites of the series next :)

i forgot how short the action at the end is in the books since the movies always drag them out. this one is again so good at giving secrets hints throughout the pages and connecting them all at the end, i love it.
