Read because of the women's prize for fiction shortlist 2023, and the fact that I really enjoy this time period. I loved the amount of descriptions of things, smells, the way light hits a room, how clothes feel on the body.
I love the fashion and general aesthetic of this time period and that is what drew me in, but the tension and characters are what made me finish it in just a few reading sessions.
i really liked the ending too, and i had to read the last little bit again to fully get it
My first King, and for sure not my last. Very long, but I do think it needed to be that long to do all that it wanted. Tense and suspenseful at times, and chill and vibey at times. A really fun and interesting read with really atmospheric descriptions of places and people, really catching that 50's & 60's vibe
not my fave ending to be honest, but the book was worth it
So good! Sped through in just 2 days. I loved the formatting with short chapters and different povs
I don’t know why but I really connected to William, maybe because I love the 1850’s so much. Also being from a rural place I can see people I know in George.
