A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

Reading this today, when Afghanistan has once again been hijacked by the Taliban, is a painful experience to say the least. How many similar stories of misfirtune must be unfolding again? A repeat of the events the author so heartbreakingly detailed. Oh Afghanistan, how many invasions and corrupt leaders will you endure? It's shocking how once again the Afghan women are being erased from public life.

Letter from Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr., the man that you are!
This should be a mandatory read in schools. not a single word was wasted and King said so much (all valid points, at that!) in so few pages. it's as if I could see a lot of my very own thoughts and opinions neatly arranged in print! I've been trying to put to words just how much I value the right to protest and why that's absolutely necessary and important. I can now use this letter as a reference in my conversations.
truly impactful!

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami

I feel like some things dragged on a bit too much and we could do without the aimless meandering text on some random things (May Kasahara on "duck people", for instance). other than that, my usual disdain of the quintessential Murakami women (especially 'not-like-other-girls' May) and protaganist aside, I quite enjoyed the weird plot (although, at a lot of points it just started to feel like a bunch of weird characters and whack disconnected narrations stitched together "just cuz"–it all came together like a patchwork tapestry at the end!)
