I don't know why it took me so long to finish this book once I started. It's actually super short so really there was no reason. Now that I've finished its I'm annoyed I waited so long. It was so so cute. It's one of the few stories I've read that centered on a LGBTQIA+ relationship, let alone one with Black people. I laughed I cried, what a roller coaster in a short little novella. I hope Alyssa Cole will do another story like this at full novel length :D
Having read the other two books in the Brown Sisters series the bar was set pretty high for Act Your Age Eve Brown. Talia Hibbert didn't let me down. I loved this book so much. Act Your Age Eve Brown, focuses on the youngest sister Eve, a young lady desperate to step into "adulthood" but experiencing difficulty in the process. When her parents' decide to cut her off, she literally runs into her dream job, and Jacob, a young man with Autism that turns her world on its head.
I loved this book. It was absolutely precious in terms of the romance aspect. I loved again that Talia made disability a part of the narrative without it being the entire narrative. I loved how Eve absolutely outlines the confusion so many young people feel when they experience failure and then don't know what to do from there. I also loved that it was in the UK, in the 2020s and ignored covid-19 (this was in content warning/info) in the beginning of the book. I was the perfect escape that I didn't know I needed.
I've read all of Jen Sicero's books and I liked them alot...but not this one so much. I think the information in it is really good, but there are so many examples of diet/weightloss in the book its really so off putting. I was really triggered by it so I couldn't really get into the rest of the book. I think this book is best read in physical copy so you can skip over all of that, and just look at the tips.
I read this book because I kept seeing @lupita_reads post about it. I didn't know it was a graphic novel so that was the best surprise when I started it. This is one of the best books I have ever experienced in my life. Tackling the difficult subjects of being a first generation Indian in an interracial relationship and all the difficult" questions a child can ask. And then adding on the rise of DJT and his eventual presidential win and how complicated it is when family doesn't understand how their votes can hurt others in the family. WHEW! I read it in about two hours at 2 in the morning and I don't regret the lack of sleep at all. it's a beautifully written book, that articulated so much, and blew my mind wide open to things I didn't ever consider. I loved this book so much.
House of M is one of the comics that is informing #WandaVision so obviously I had to read it. I was truly shaken by the end of this series. Like it's so good, but WHEW! It took my breath away, not unlike the end of Infinity War. I have very mixed feelings around the way that Wanda's mental health is being treated in this situation (actually I don't they are not doing right by her AT ALL) and it brings up so many issues in mental health care even though it's fictional. I just....this comic is really good and I strongly recommend it, but it makes you think alot :)
If you're a fan of the Home Edit, this book was probably really exciting because 1. it's physically gorgeous, and 2. it's supposed to help you organize better then the first book. I don't know that I walked away feeling like I was able to organize better-- it honestly solidified that I want to someday be rich enough to hire Joanna and Clea to organize my house--but it as fun to look at the pictures of all the nice organized spaces.
Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
I literally just finished this book and I feel like there is so much to process, but not in a bad way. I think this book really does an excellent job of exploring that Church women are multifaceted in so many ways, and that there are a lot and I do mean A LOT of deep hidden secrets in the community.
It took me forever to finish it because I forgot about it honestly. But now that I have revisited it, it Loved it. Debbie Tung is one of my favorite artists and I love her books. This was such a sweet adorable look into her relationship. Its a fast read and the comic is so precious. 10/10 would recommend.
I read all of Rick Riordon's work in 2019 and I loved it. Revisiting Percy Jackson as a graphic novel honestly was such a joy. I love the graphic novel format and this one was so beautifully illustrated. I think reading this series as comics is going to be a BLAST!
This is such sweet retelling of Little Women including diversity in race, sexual identity, relationships, etc. I really enjoyed it. I also loved that it is a graphic novel which is one of my new favorite mediums to read :D
