I really enjoyed this book. I listened to the audiobook which was gifted to me by the author in exchange for a review. The audiobook was really good, and I enjoyed the narration. I loved the whole vibe of the caravan and want to see more of them in book 2. I did have a few things that kept it from being a full 5 stars for me though. The main character started to annoy me a bit towards the end. It felt like she both felt like everything in the whole world was her fault while also feeling some moral high ground despite being new to the world and culture of the traders. It wasn’t enough to keep me from enjoying it, I just wish she was more flawed on a relatable level rather than her magic issues being her main flaw. Also certain character (not named for spoiler reasons) gets kind of villainized towards the end, and while I agree that he needed to be way more respectful of the main character’s boundaries, he was one of the most relatable characters when it comes to flaws. That doesn’t mean I’m condoning his mistakes! But the feelings he was having are real for anyone. This aside, I was completely captivated for the whole story, and my complaints are not going to stop me from anticipating the release of the second audiobook!
This series was most definitely not perfect. That being said, it was truly one of the best stories I have ever experienced and that was all I needed it to be.
This book was very entertaining. I had a great time reading it. That being said, if I had been the one plotting it, I would have gone a different direction with the story. I was a little dissatisfied with the ending, but I get that it sets up for book 3. I just wished we got a little bit more satisfaction. A few of the characters seemed to be acting out of the norm towards the end too making it feel a tad rushed. Anyways the vibes are still great and I highly reccomend this book when it comes out in September!
When I discovered it, I was seeing it marketed as YA but I found out there was spice later on in the series, which I don’t read for personal reasons. I just didn’t want to get attached knowing I wouldn’t want to continue after the book was over. It was very good though.
