This sequel offers heartwarming reunions, vivid descriptions, and exciting developments as characters reveal their true intentions. Highlights include the alliance between Xingyin and the Celestial Empress to free Liwei and the long-awaited reunion of Houyi and Chang’e. However, the overuse of miscommunication, an exhausting love triangle, inconsistent dialogue, and unnecessary characters like Tao detract from the story. The Celestial Empress’s ongoing disdain for Xingyin and Liwei’s failure to stand up to her also grow frustrating over time.

I’m usually not into love triangles, but it worked here because Xingyin’s character growth was so strong. After being sheltered most of her life, she faces a ton of challenges, and it’s cool to see her shift from wanting revenge for her mom to figuring out her own purpose.
Her cleverness in freeing the dragons and staying true to her morals stood out, and even though the happy ending wasn’t with the character I wanted, it still felt satisfying. That said, it was kind of unrealistic that every guy she met either wanted to date her or destroy her. Plus, Wenzhi’s betrayal was a bummer, and it was frustrating that the Celestial Emperor and Empress stayed in power.
