Although I can see what makes this book the classic that it is, it is for a specific brand of person who values witty writing, and extravagant stories over cohesive themes, immersive world building, and a driven plot.
I often found myself utterly confused by the descriptions, lost in the plot, and losing track of which eccentric character with eccentric names was which. Much like Hitchhickers guide to the galaxy, it seems great, but just not for me.
