I never read a book I hated more. Do not go into this thinking it's a thriller/mystery because it literally isn't.

What I liked about the book:
- Octavia Butler's writing style
- the futuristic aspect of it/tge plot in general
- the diary entry format
- the way this was written in the 90's yet it's so realistic blows my mind
What I didn't like:
- the...flatness?... of the main character. I feel like she was very dry
- the ending was very anticlimactic. It just. Ended. I was expecting a big plot twist idk.
Honestly wish I could give this book 4 stars but the things I didn't like are actually very important things to me 😭😭

I want to go to Nantucket now.

There were a LOT of different POVs in this book, which I both liked and didn't like. I know that confusing, but oh well. It was a really nice book it just wasn't good enough that I couldn't put it down.

This book was so good! I even cried a little at the end, which A book hadn't made me cry in a while :) I LOVED the interactions and dialogue between Jack and Hazel. L O V E D. I only wish that the romance was a bigger theme in the book, or a little bit more developed. However, I can't even care that much because while I definitely thing that the "a love story" in the title refers to Hazel and Jack, I also think that it refers to Hazel and her growing love for becoming a physician. She always had this longing to be a doctor, but as time goes on and she learns more and more about it, her love for it grows. Anyway, I love this book. <3
