very oddly paced, and the mystery much less intricate than the ones that have come before, so less entertaining unforch—saved however by the emotional resolutions in veronica and stoker’s relationship as well as some reflection on veronica’s self

very oddly reflective by way of veronica, which i didn’t love, but redeemed by the mystery and escapades

the weakest thus far, unfortunately—too much drama for drama’s sake, both in the mystery and between vs and rtv—vs seems to have lost a good bit of her common sense throughout and i hope it returns to her in subsequent volumes

wildly clever and dryly witty satire—ngl the worldbuilding feels a bit like being waterboarded but i think that was mostly because it’s my first discworld—prolly all the rest will be just fine having familiarized myself

individually an excellent conclusion to the trilogy, the flow is perfect off of girl in the tower, and the highs are incredibly high while the lows are incredibly low—as a series, i care so much i feel it tight in my core, i can barely talk about it, i can barely even think too hard about it—i love this so so so so much

really lovely writing and such an interesting perspective and angle on history—elegant weave of symbolism and blunt reality—very complementary perspective changes throughout

the emotional developments in this one are so nuanced!! plus the mystery was quite good as well, good number of moving parts. love backstory reveals !!

wildly mid—skimmed entire chapters bc of my lack of investment in tess as a protagonist and callum as a love interest. octavia and joni were much better tbh and the plot was ok ig…it just all felt a bit too referential of fandom in both a semi-accurate way but also v caricature way and i don’t love that honestly

just as good as the previous if not a bit better—interesting motivations, if a little convoluted overall i think

a bit much on the drama side of things, but a good introduction to the characters and very in line with the types of serial stories i find most fun! will be interesting to see where the rest of the books continue
