This book made me cry. A LOT. Tears of pain and sorrow; tears of joy and hope; tears of anger and disappointment; tears of pure happiness. This was the perfect ending to the Throne of Glass series and I could not recommend it more after reading Kingdom of Ash. My heart is full.

The descriptions in this book are unmatched - it truly felt as if I was there, in Antica, with the characters! The love stories were a bit predictable and the characters' feelings for each other developed quite fast in my opinion, but chapter 20 made me swoon!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat and definitely made me reevaluate The Assassin's Blade book, to which I originally gave a pretty low rating. Although adding even more characters' POVs to the mix was a bit intimidating at first, the way the story flows uninterrupted and allows it to converge at certain plot points is absolutely INCREDIBLE!

I honestly struggled with finishing this book and it pains me to give it such a low rating, especially considering how I thought this series was going to be my favorite Sarah J. Maas’s one. However, I felt like for the majority of the book the essence of the characters was lost or changed entirely - part 2 was in fact the most difficult section to get through as I felt so distant from characters I truly came to love. The final part of the book was able to tie all together and I am satisfied enough with this ending - if it even is a true ending since there are so many questions left unanswered…

I’d give a 5-star review to this book to whatever end. I read ACOTAR and CC, both of which I absolutely love, before picking up Throne of Glass and I wasn’t entirely sold on it…That is, until I finished THIS book! Heir of Fire is what convinced me about ToG and I cannot wait to pick up the next book!

Before the infamous last 100 pages, these were my thoughts: I am liking this book even though it is still a bit predictable; I don't understand how it is both a YA and an adult book - yes, its predictability would be alluring to a younger crowd, but some of the violent descriptions and actions are definitely more suited for adults. I guess we'll see as it keeps going! And it did keep going and what a twist! Did NOT expect it or saw it coming - it made me reevaluate my rating and thoughts on the series so far!

A bit predictable but, nonetheless, enjoyable. Definitely intriguing enough to make me want to continue reading the next book in the series!

EDIT - After reading the whole series, I had to come back to this review and increase this book's rating; I now appreciate it so much more than when I first read it! The fact that the FMC is so young pulled me away a bit...I might be picky with my female leads but I just don't like reading about a teenager who is the best of the very best - at assassinating too?! Don't think so...Why couldn't she be in her early 20s at least? That would have been more believable compared to being 17 years old...Nonetheless, the pacing and the collection of stories are entertaining and kept me coming back to find out how it'll be all tied together in the end.
