I'm reading this series because a friend (who's not much of a reader) asked me to so I could tell him if the books differ from the movie or movies, also apparently the movie or movies ended with a cliffhanger so he wanted to know what happened afterwards.

So here I am. I expected to find little to no enjoyment reading this book because I don't like Sci-Fi very much but surprisingly I actually really enjoyed the first book. it was creepy and mysterious and I found myself wanting to read more and more as more information was revealed.

I'm not much of a reviewer but I did want to say that I did enjoy this book a lot, will continue the rest of the series and hopefully they're just as good or better.

Nothing could've prepared me for what I was about to read when I started this book. It was raw, heartbreaking and honestly, it left a giant pit in my stomach. However, it was beautifully written.

This book was disappointingly boring. The writing was so lazy and childish which really sucks because I expected better from Moshfegh.

This book was absolutely heartbreaking yet there were so many beautiful moments. I read the last 100 or so pages with tears streaming down my eyes, all the build up for the main characters made their stories so emotional in the end. Although it was extremely sad, I enjoyed every second reading this book, easily 5 stars.

‘But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin.’
