Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

I am absolutely LOVING this series. I absolutely adore the way Meyer integrates all of this fairytale characters in an inventive and modern way, stylising them so that they reflect the original character but adjusting them so that they fit into the world of the Lunar chronicles. However, as I'm discovering, after having finished "Cress" by the time I've written this review, I'm finding that in "Scarlet", I was more interested reading about Cinder, and in "Cress", I was more interested reading about Cinder and Scarlet rather than Cress. If the same level of thinking is to be true of "Winter", I'm sure I'll be reading about Cinder, Scarlet and Cress more than I care to be reading about Winter.

Mortal Danger by Ann Aguirre

When I first picked up this book, read the blurb and decided to borrow it from my local library, I was concerned that it was just going to be "feel good overcoming adversity and bullies" kind of story - that almost prevented me from reading it. However, I delved deeper and deeper into the story, and was swept up in the romance between Edie and Kian, and became intrigued by The Immortal Game and I was shocked by the actions made by those who played it (including very grim endings for some characters). There were parts when I feared for Edie and believed that the nightmares found in this book could be real - The Man with the Sack, the most frightening of all. As I read the final chapters, I was so glad that it wasn't the clichéd "feel good" story I had believed it to be. Instead, I enjoyed a read that was not only gripping, but also gave meaning to the human condition and to face our own mortality. As Aguirre writes in her Author's Note, "Fear is a visceral emotion, impossible to banish from modern life." These words could not ring truer. Overall, what a haunting but brilliant beginning - cannot wait to read the sequel.

This book is spectacular.

There are not enough words in the world that can convey my praise for Ahdieh. She's created such a remarkable world, filled with characters who transcend the page.

A truly beautiful novel that has brought a breath of fresh air to the young adult genre that I haven't experienced since Maas, Cashore, and Bardugo.

This book was amazing. . Can't believe it took me a month to read! Then again, I've been very busy with uni work.

Khalid and Shazi - you two make my heart ache.

So many plot twists. So many reveals.

And only one truly sad occasion.

Thanks for not destroying my heart too much Ahdieh.

My only disappointment is the end. I WANT MORE DETAILS!
