Good storyline but why did both narrative voices annoy me?

It was good and would be amazing if it was a movie - think Cast Away vibes but in a house labyrinth. The world building is so good and the way everything is described builds such a magnificent picture in your head. It’s 3 stars because I was almost expecting more? I don’t know what - but it just didn’t feel the way other 4* and 5* books in the past have.

It’s so bad that it’s good? It’s like watching a car crash you can’t look away, in this case can’t stop reading. The main characters are insufferable, it would be nice if the side characters would be fleshed out a little more. Also didn’t like how they used American vernacular when speaking like saying ‘can’ instead of ‘taxi’ and Grade 9 instead of Year 9 despite it being set in London.

5 stars because I felt like I needed more, which obviously meant it had an impact.

Would have graded it 4 but it was a slow start. The second half was good and I liked how it was all pulled together at the end.
