The world building, the characters, the culture, loved every second! Even read the acknowledgments which I never do lol. Can’t wait to read book two! Nov 2022-Jan 2023

Reread Review: Reread with my sisters in a book club. Very much still enjoy this but the characters development was a bit clunky and inconsistent, which may have been the point and I have to remember the characters are all teenagers, but some motivations and reactions were so fickle it was hard to believe what was happening at points. But this is just a limitation all YA tends to have for me. This is a great series and should own its well deserved hype. So many lesser YA fantasies that are not as good get more allowances and less critique than this gem of a series. Feb 2024-Jul 2024

Slow start, insufferable yet intriguing characters. This book grew on me with the turn of every page. Honestly the prose/writing style was beautiful and tinged with satirical humor. I just like the way it’s written, it took it from 3 stars at the 40% mark to 5 stars at 100%.

I just don’t find it engaging. I struggled to get to 29%. I don’t care about anyone and I hate the unrequited romance. The structure is good and ends on riveting points, but it’s just not connecting with me.

Reads like poorly written fan fiction. Boring characters. I just don’t care.

Loved this anthology! My favorite to date. Anthologies are usually misses for me but 11 out of 19 stories were notable, with 9 being favorites! This gets five stars from me. The extra star is for the great conversations it generated as a buddy read.
