This felt like it should have been read before book 5.
Murderbot is back on Preservation when a dead body is found. Is this the evil corporation plotting against Dr Mensah and her team? Murderbot must investigate to make sure their people remain safe.
I think I would have liked this more had I read it before book 5 but I did really like seeing how Murderbot interacted with the new characters we met.

A full length Murderbot book!
Murderbot is back, this time on a mission with some new faces from Preservation, including Dr Mensah’s daughter. Murderbot once again has to protect their humans. We also meet up with ART again which is always entertaining.
I can’t get enough of this series.

This book is from Dr Mensah’s perspective following the events of the previous book. I didn’t love it as much as the books from Murderbot’s POV but it was interesting to see a different side of things.

Murderbot is back, this time to help Dr Mensah again and take down the evil corporation that keeps making life difficult for Murderbot’s friends.
We see Murderbot struggle with their identity and what it means to be a free bot who cares for their humans but doesn’t want to be considered a human.
The humor, the sarcasm, the general vibe of Murderbot—I can’t get enough. Great series! Love these books.

Murderbot is back again, still on the run. This time he is hired for a security job with a new crew and meets another bot with a close relationship with their humans, Miki.
Another adventure trying to take down the corporate entity that is making their existence and the lives of Murderbot’s friends from Preservstion hell.
It was fun to get to see how Murderbot handled and interpreted the relationship with Miki and the human crew. The realization that the humans really did care for Miki and want the best for them, maybe healed some things for Murderbot or at least confirmed for them that not all humans are awful, despite how it may feel sometimes (so relatable!)
I was so sad when Miki didn’t make it!!

Murderbot is back with a new cast on a new adventure.
After they leave the planet to figure out what kind of free SecUnit they want to be, they meet ART and try to determine what went wrong in their past so that it doesn’t happen again.
Again, a weirdly relatable book about self discovery… despite the focus being on bots and bot/human constructs.
Love it!

Love this book.
This was another book club pick, and I’m so glad it was as I’m not sure I would have picked it up otherwise.
Robots, space exploration, corporate greed, this short book has it all.
I loved the writing, the asides, and the tone of our beloved main character, Murderbot. They felt so tangible and relatable, despite being a human bot construct made with the sole purpose of security, at any cost to themself.
A great start to a fun and interesting series!

This was a tough one for me.
I read it for a book club, and I’m not sure I would have read it otherwise.
The writing was good, I felt a sense a dread the entire time which I’m sure was on purpose, the history of the pet sematary was interesting.
The author’s note about how Stephen King’s daughter said “let god have his own cat!” after hers had been hit by a car was devastating to me. Him writing this book more or less in response to that is interesting.
Bringing the cat back and then realizing it was creepy and awful AND THEN BRINGING HIS SON BACK?! Why would anyone think that’s a good idea??
The ending was good in an awful horror story sort of way.
But the whole thing was a huge bummer for me.

A beautiful, heartbreaking story of doing your best to overcome generational trauma and not making the same mistakes from the past.
Beautifully written, relatable, hopeful, frustrating. I felt the emotions alongside of Yara she felt unseen, unheard, and unloved. The way Yara struggles to find the right thing to say, to feel emotions that she didn’t feel she was entitled to have, I think we’ve all had similar experiences. The hope is that we all can find the strength and the hope to keep moving forward.
