Overall I enjoyed this book, but it wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. Perhaps it was because I listened to the audio version, but it felt quite repetitive and the middle of the book really dragged for me. I appreciate her growth and mindset in this story, but I would’ve appreciated a bit more of the “how” she did these things. I appreciated how vulnerable she was, especially in regards to her mental health and her body image.

It was a good book, but not one I’d re-visit.

This was a fun, silly read. It was a unique premise and a great palette cleanser after a heavy read!

Pierce brown write a complex female character challenge (level impossible).

This felt like a cheap hunger games rip-off without the complexities of the main character. Darrow was truly insufferable. The way a r*pe is portrayed in this book is just a cheap plot device and it is never fleshed out in a meaningful way.

The blatant misogyny was just infuriating and disappointing. Every female character had manic pixie dream girl energy about them and they only existed to either 1) die to further the plot or 2) become a love interest of the MMC.

Flop of epic proportions. You are better off just reading The Hunger Games.

I have never DNF’d a book so quickly. The writing is horrible and so immature. The characters are unbearable. And I can already tell there’s going to be some bullshit that ensues because this book is 500+ pages. Nope. I’m protecting my peace and letting the 17 year olds enjoy this one.
