I loved the peek into the communities and culture. I would definitely read another book about their next 15 years.

Woah - I’d say stick with it. It’s worth it. At times I was annoyed by all the narrative exposition. The inner life of the main character was interesting, but not soooo much that I needed that level Of detail. But it pays off in the end.
I’d recommend “Mostly Dead Things” as a good first read by this author. Her books were recommended to me on a list of “Weird” books - with other titles like Big Swiss, Night Bitch. If you liked those, you may like this one.

The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner
UGH UGH UGH the last cheesy, self-indulgent paragraph. WHY? It cheapened the whole premise for me.

A story about people and relationships in the setting of video games from the 80’s through the early 2000’s.

Learned a lot and enjoyed listening to it. I wish I had known most of the research and references would be to European forests and species before I picked it up.
Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire by Neil Gaiman

I almost quit this one a few pages in. I was confused about the story and the narrator then at the halfway point it all clicked. What a clever story-telling vehicle about the horror genre and the art of writing.
