The writing style is dry and repetitive, even when listening to the audiobook, which makes the book more challenging to get into than it should be for a collection of short stories. But, despite its blandness, this book is not for everyone. If you have any triggers associated with child abuse, the mention of a past sexual assault, or suicide, I do not recommend reading it; If you do read it anyways, skip the second, third, fourth,  seventh, and sixteenth stories.
