I am familiar with the areas where this book is set so I really enjoyed the setting and descriptions. The first half of the book was great, as I felt it was building towards some really interesting stories, but it all fell flat in the end for me. Even though the narrative is first person I felt like the main character was being held at a distance and I never really grew to like her and so never felt deep compassion for what she experienced, only compassion as you would feel for a stranger whose story you read on the news. If you are familiar with Pennsylvania, I’d recommend the book for the settings alone but otherwise I’d probably pass on this read. It is also not a thriller, more of a suspenseful slow mystery with an anticlimactic end.
