like a lot of other people, i really wish there was more about the persuasion aspects of cults. i think this is a really good introductory book to everything but I kept waiting for there to be more. overall i did really enjoy it, as someone who lives next door to clearwater florida it hit close to home lol

a time capsule for 2016-2018 tumblr besties and i loved every second of it. the nostalgia it brings coupled with a bittersweet story about love and friendship and defying the odds makes a heartwarming story that just GETS to you. i love the authors voices and how well they meld together. can’t wait to read the sequel!

when i read YA it’s mostly because I wish i had this growing up. or something like it. it hits home in ways that nothing else can. like when you watch mean girls for the 1000th time or can’t help but turn on 13 going on 30. you long for your childhood while also reminiscing. this book helps me do just that.

Such a dense novel that even though it doesn’t cross 400 pages conveys so much about the world around us.

i forgot how much of this is cut out of the movie. and how much of this speaks to snows fear of losing control and power. i love this series so much.

a beautifully crafted beginning to one of the most amazing and life changing series I have ever read. here’s to my fifth time reading this novel. especially coming back to this after TBOSAS, you can tell that Suzanne Collins set her story up with a sharp pen.

i don’t know how one could leave this book sympathizing with snow. i’ve seen that as a criticism and i genuinely don’t know how at any point you could muster up a tiny bit of sympathy at all. it is very clear throughout the entire novel that he is not a good guy. that he is manipulative, possessive, obsessive, jealous, and generally awful. every time he is presented an opportunity to change he denies it. and i think this origin story for the villain is exceptional. it could have been shorter and of course i want to know more about lucy but i think that’s the entire point. because snow never actually loved her. he was incredibly selfish and languished in someone needing him in a way he wasn’t used to. this is shown throughout his perspective continuously. the prof of his incapacity to love is shown through just how little snow was willing to know her. suzanne you’ve done it again.

much improvement since the last novel, i found the dual POV to be a really great change with this authors writing style and let us get a more in depth taste of the other characters. a fun lighthearted read.
