I originally bought this book for my niece, but upon reading it myself, I realised she’s still a little young for it. However, I had a good laugh over it! The characters are fun and silly and immensely amusing. For a book directed at children, I wasn’t a huge fan of the villianization of the majority of the adults in the story. Is it really that hard to find a book where parents and children are able to communicate amicably? Apparently so. But, as an adult reading this book, I found it delightfully funny and honestly, I might just read it again!
I honestly… have no words for this absolute ✨BEAUTY✨ of a poetry collection!!
But I’m gonna try, because a review without any words isn’t really a review, now is it? Lol.
Taura Wildes. The ✨QUEEN✨ of last lines. The ✨ALCHEMIST✨ of my tears. The girl who ✨SOMEHOW✨ got inside my head and decided to write a book about it!
Seriously, I don’t know how many times I walked away from a poem going, ✨“Wow!”✨ ✨“Oh my GOSH!!”✨ or ✨“How did she KNOW?!?!”✨
My KU copy is ✨FULL✨ of highlights and notes! Which I intend to transfer as soon as my ✨physical copy✨ is in. Hehe.
When I say I was only 40% into this book before deciding I ✨HAD✨ to have a personal copy, ✨I MEAN IT!!✨ I have literally ✨NEVER✨ bought a book so fast ✨IN MY LIFE!!✨
The author’s writing style is ✨STUNNING!!✨ The artwork and photography are absolutely ✨AMAZING!!✨ And the subject matter she writes on hits me right ✨IN THE HEART!!✨ ✨(I may or may not have gotten excited at the contents warning page. 🤭)✨
So right now, if you’re seeing this Taura, I just want to thank you so much for creating this beautiful ✨5 star read!✨
It is truly a ✨work of art!✨ And I recommend it to ✨EVERYBODY!✨
A girl with unparalleled beauty. A boy with the ability to turn straw into gold. Both extraordinary gifts — with extraordinary consequences.
I had only two complaints with this cute little story written up by Ms. Mecham. One, the writing style was a little underdeveloped, in my opinion, with a lot of “telling” rather than “showing.” And two, the book was entirely too short! Hahaha. I loved the disability representation Ms. Mecham added to Rhys’ character! It’s a very rare find for me to see books and stories centring around characters with disabilities, and the way Ms. Mecham wove the idea flawlessly into his character was just the sweetness I was needing. There were a lot of elements of the story that definitely could have been improved given more time, (e.g. I would like to know a little bit more of how the magic, “gifts”, and “curses” of this world work, and getting to view Rhys and Meg’s relationship without the construct of a time constraint would have been amazing!) But overall, my heart still beat for the characters. I wished them happiness, and feared for it during their conflicts.
This may very well be the start of more disability-inclusion fics written by this author in my near future.
