i feel like old plays of this stature (shakespeare being the bulk) are always something i struggle to get a ton out of simply because of the fact that they can be difficult to truly understand if you aren’t being properly translated each scene’s significance. it borders reading something in another language—which is already challenging enough alone—but you also have to take into account the whole other time period/location of the play. in all this was the typical anti-hero plot which we can definitely give shakespeare a heap of credit for, though nothing that happened here was all that surprising or intriguing. it would be a fun play to see on stage!

this was much better than the more recent film, that of which i watched prior to reading the novel. i think once you truly understand an author’s motives and thoughts through their characters, you can really appreciate what they’ve done. i’ve come to appreciate hawthorne’s romantic views and this experience has brought me to realize that, even if a story isn’t entirely compelling to me, once i understand and have broken down everything an author is trying to tell me through their work, it’s extremely difficult not to admire them. it’s extremely true that if there is any magic in this world, it is through the act of understanding someone sharing something.

this book was kinda crazy ??? like genuinely it made me think about things so much and although the book was like terrible to get through the insight was very interesting. i will probably be checking out animal farm at some point just from reading this of Orwell’s. wow man i don’t even know what to say. i remember thinking how weird this book was when i started but i feel like this will stick with me and i’m glad i got to think about the topics it brought to the front of my mind. like it made me feel really weird but in a good way. uncomfortable but needed.
