The book was slow-paced and so insanely in the mind of the main character that sometimes i found it difficult to really understand where things where going, but after
the initial encounter with the Arabs
I found it interesting enough to continue. Overall it felt less like an engaging plot with interesting characters and more like the ramblings of a man so absorbed in his situation that he can’t bother to satisfy even the closest people to his heart. He just really didn’t gaf i guess😭

The world building throughout the entire novel was intensely immersive while also managing to keep the plot/characters in the main focus of the writing. The main character, Darrow, was written in a way where I didn’t feel like I was getting “bottle fed” his motives and backstory at every turn but all of his actions seemed to flow cohesively with his motives and experiences. The book was a tiiiiiny bit slow at some instances where I felt like some fat couldve been cut out, but overall I really enjoyed the novel. It was like a really fleshed out, fantasy-sci-fi version of the Hunger Games (even if you have read/seen the Hunger Games, I really think that this novel is worth a read!!!)
