I heard that this book is good, but I still didn't expect that I would love it that much! :) At first I really tried to understand the worldbuilding and the war, but after some time I realized that I enjoyed it way more by focusing on the characters and their story rather than on the story of the world itself. The relationship developing throughout the letters and the writing was really beautiful (it also made me feel a bit dumb sometimes, but oh well). Also, that was what made it fun to annotate the book, you can find phrases, words and stylistic devices to interpret literally everywhere :)
Yes, I do understand the critique this book gets. However, I still liked most parts like the fantasy elements and the characters were really lovable. Additionally, I love the found family trope this book and the sweet, funny, emotional scenes that came with it. (overall I think the house in the cerulean sea was better)
Le petit prince is definitely one of my favorite novels. It‘s been a while since I’ve read this book for the first time in my first language when I was in elementary school and at first I couldn’t remember most parts of it. Now I reread it, this time in Spanish. I can’t say that I understood every single word, however, did understand the story and it was amazing! :) It’s sweet, magical and I think the message is quite important. Also I didn’t remember it being so sad :’(
Overall, I liked the book; the general idea and the long sentences were interesting (but also exhausting sometimes) . However, I do understand the critique that the focus is not mainly on the topic of racism in the whole society but rather on the main characters Anders & Oona and their parents. Also, we never get to know how black people feel about the changes, or how people change exactly. Maybe the book just would have had to be longer, idk.
I really wanted to read a horror story, just to try if it was my cup of tea or not. 🍵 Overall I enjoyed the story, I liked the dark atmosphere and the plot twist at the end was not predictable at all. Also, since I've never read a horror novel before, that kind of story was very new and interesting for me. :) However, I didn't have an emotional attachment to the characters, therefore I wasn't always that scared for them, nor did I feel any other strong emotions while reading.
Don't get me wrong, the story sure is lovely and I really liked the characters so far, but I need a break. On one hand, this book is kind of preachy, and on the other hand it's sometimes hard to understand (especially for people that speak English as 2nd language) because languages simply change over time. This book is like 156 years old. One example which I found confusing was:
"[...] Beth, who was toasting her face and the bread for tea [...] " 🍞 (I think she's blushing?)
Overall, reading it felt a bit tiring but also somewhat entertaining too and the daily life of the protagonists and their relationships were really sweet :) Well, I will pick it up again, but not now. If I had to rate what I've read so far it would be around 3 stars.
Yet again, I've been a victim of the "omg, look at the cover art, it's so pretty!" But oh well, I don't regret reading this novel :). I think it was a good book, it kinda felt like a very long fairytale. I liked the exciting and the inspirational parts and also the descriptions of the spirit realm. I'd love to read more about that world there'd be much potential for other stories with all the different houses and gods :)
