This is what, my fourth re read..? Felt compelled to read after Wifedom. It did not get better as I’d hoped. I feel Orwell’s tuberculosis and frailty through these pages -  his exasperation and terror of the Soviets - but the book isn’t… good?

Anna Funder loves conjecture, so if you know what you're in for... it's fantastic. who knew that little freaks that write like Orwell are, in fact, little freaks in real life

God, the man can write. Insane that a book so filled to the brim with filth, slop and such, has got some of the most excellent prose I've read this year. Constantly tickled by Miller's aversion to the vagina,, there is something so deliciously freudian about his sexuality. I've never quite seen the hedonism of Paris captured in the same way despite its rebranding  GOD one can tear this one apart, 'smooth out the wrinkles' or whatever pathetic attribute Miller attaches to his penis

essential internet reading.  its kind of insane for a tech bro to have an "are we the baddies" moment so early on and then accurately predict everything that was to happen like it kind of makes me lose my mind

Actually not a fan of Janice being uncovered as a character. Leave her be. Decided im not rating these books because they are frankly beyond stars and my nostalgia and wist will surely get in the way
