Kennedy Ryan never fails to amaze me with her writing. This story was so raw, so delicate and sensitive, and so powerful. This follows the story of a black rapper from the streets of Compton, and a privileged white woman, who happens to be his best friend's sister, as well as his manager. Grip deals with a number of sensitive topics such as police brutality, classism, racism, separation between black and white people alike, and so much more. The story between Bristol and Grip was so beautiful, and it just shows how important it is to be educated on the differences between you and your counterparts, and was just written in a way that shows intelligence and knowledge on the heavy topics at hand, and inspiration in a love between two people who come from very opposite sides of the track.

for someone who’s not the biggest fan of the bully trope, I sure did have a lot of fun reading this. It gave serious dramione vibes, and made me want to rewatch the hp movies again even though i just rewatched them only a few weeks ago. the two (supposedly) unloved children finding love within each other…and it was no thanks to the one and only lucie delombre. speaking of lucie, i loved the music score plot; it was so unique and intriguing to me. it gave ‘murder mystery’ without the murder, and with music instead of the usual crime investigation. and i absolutely loved how the story ended with her playing in the orchestra like ifykyk i wanna cry awwww.

levi delombre is literally the definition of unhinged. his obsession with dalia and his insane prodigal ability to cyberhack and then use his talent to watch dalia??? insanity, but lowk cute…maybe i’m the unhinged one 🌚 anyways, i loved his growth, he went from this insane bully (he’s still a bully don’t get me wrong) to dalia to this man who would literally do anything to make her happy, even if it means going against his morals (again, don’t ask me what morals he has lmao) and then dalia, when she finally stood up to her father?? literally so proud 🥹

i can't even lie, i think this might be one of the best prequels i've ever read. kennedy ryan is such an amazing writer (we already knew this, though) that i truly did not feel like it was a prequel. i was getting so into the story, and then it was just... over... like book one me right nowwwww thanks. but in all honesty, this was a really great introduction into the story of grip and bristol omg
