In "Later," Stephen King weaves a tale of Jamie Conklin, a young boy with an unnatural ability to see and learn things no one else can. Born to a struggling single mother, Jamie strives for an ordinary childhood, but his unique gift sets him apart. When an NYPD detective discovers Jamie's ability, he becomes entangled in the pursuit of a killer who threatens from beyond the grave.
The audiobook's narration is exceptional, enhancing the overall experience. The storyline is intriguing, blending horror elements with compelling characters, including complex villains. Jamie's relationship with his mother adds depth, and the cost of his supernatural ability unfolds as he confronts evil in various forms.
King's narrative, reminiscent of his classic "It," explores innocence lost and the moral trials that challenge our perceptions of right and wrong. The crime aspects add an engrossing layer to the horror, creating a captivating and disturbing blend.
While horror isn't my usual genre, "Later" proved to be an enjoyable and well-crafted read, showcasing King at his finest.
