I mostly read this audiobook because I just rewatched "Matilda". It had some interesting insights on young Mara's life, especially the times surrounding the filming of "Matilda" and "A Simple Wish" (which were filmed during the decline and death of her mother). Well written, well read, but not much more than a slice of life. Doesn't mean it wasn't worth reading, but I'm not left with any big feelings on it either way. Three stars.

Do you ever stay up until 2am reading sad, queer poetry? And not sad as in I feel worse when I've finished reading--but sad as in life and queerness and love are beautiful. Your eyes are watering and you're most definitely NOT crying. That kinda sad.

The kind that makes you feel alive.

Andrea Gibson's poetry is all of those things. The kind of book you read in one sitting and can't put down. The kind of poetry that changes you.

Interestingly, I actually follow Gibson on Insta. Somehow I didn't connect their snippets of poetry there with actual books. Or live poetry performances (which I would love to attend). I feel like I've just found a queer haven and I couldn't be more excited. Or recommend them enough.
