as a true crime enjoyer i did enjoy that it was based on ted bundy. i enjoyed how the writer never romanticised him and really showed the victims in a light that a lot of people don’t
however, the last 80 pages of the book lost me and felt like they were dragging on and could’ve been cut down.

she was insufferable at times but every woman in their early 20’s is. the realism ended up making me fall in love with dolly and her friends.
god. i love my friends even more than i already did.

another one where i didn’t get the hype :(
i honestly didn’t get the urge to pick it up or finish it at all. the story just felt like a quick and easy read where nothing really that special happens.

donna tartt, you are a genius for making so many characters so dislikable at times ( they all need therapy). the foreshadowing throughout the book was so clever.
the only thing i didn’t enjoy was that her writing is mainly description focused, sometimes i wished we got a bit more of the plot rather than visuals.

i think my issue with this is that i picked it up thinking it would be a thriller and it was more based on generational trauma.
the slow pace and amount of pov’s you had to keep up with didn’t work for me either.
unfortunately i didn’t get the hype for this

i don’t think i could ever re-read this book as the topics are so upsetting and triggering at times.
however. the characters are written in such a realistic way that you feel you are living the journey they go on with them ( to the point where it physically hurts watching jude go through his life )
i do think some traumas were unnecessary and were added as shock factor.

i worked out what was going on by the second half but regardless this was so good. the plot twists constantly felt like whiplash and i enjoyed how none of these people were ever “the perfect victims” in their stories.

my favourite read of the year so far. it’s so painfully relatable especially if you’ve dealt with death / addiction.
for me it was a darker version of little women.

i loved that it focused on the bucket list and on jodie’s romance however, i do wish the grief aspect was brought into the story more at times.
it’s still a super enjoyable and emotional story though.
