I'm a big Scalzi fan, especially his space operas. Kaiju Preservation Society is probably the one I've enjoyed the least. It's not a bad book (I gave it a three.), it's just not what I was hoping for. It gets entirely too chatty, resulting in long conversations about nothing that also aren't fun to read. And I like dialogue usually. That chatty personal dialogue is one of things I loved in the Last Emperox but here it just fills space. The book is a little too in love with the actual biology of the Kaiju which I imagine appeals to somebody but wasn't what I was looking for. And it seems to mostly leave the actual kaiju up to the reader's imagination. Again, not a bad book. Nothing I regretted reading but not for me.

Deeply upsetting, unbearably depressing and absolutely disgusting. I really enjoyed it.
