Nightmare Fuel: The Science of Horror Films by Nina Nesseth

informative
this was so interesting!! i really liked how she delved into our individual and societal reactions to horror and the perspectives within the field of science to explain them. the actual Science science parts (talking about the parts of our brain that react to certain scenes in movies) were cool to learn about. but i am a social science girlie at heart so the sociological and psychological studies throughout were even more fascinating. definitely made me appreciate the art of horror films even more :)

the writing style was very interesting and i liked the tense atmosphere the author managed to create, however i just wasn’t that engaged in the story itself for some reason. i liked the ambiguous ending but wish there was more to it. definitely will be picking up other works by the author!

this book ended up being quite fun once i got into it! i had a few issues with the writing (will never get over the “toxically masculine urge” line) but i liked the characters and the development of the story. i also thought the concept was unique, and it addressed addiction and the morality of killing someone in an interesting way.
