The fantastic ending couldn’t save this book from being such a drag for 400 pages.

Technically I read this book over four years ago in high school and I thought it was fine then…
But now…
It’s still fine.
I hope it gets better later in the series.

… meh?

It was fine. That’s really all I can say. The good parts were GREAT as always but the meh parts kinda overshadowed the good parts.

This book, much like Wings & Ruin, spent so long filling pages for what felt like the sake of filling pages that it got REAL dull a third of the way in. The magical items, like several before them, felt overhyped and underwhelming. The villain of the story wasn’t really compelling and was honestly kinda predictable. And unfortunately Cassian and Nesta’s romance was just kinda boring to me.

It felt like a mediocre spinoff show, or an alright fanfiction. The ending of this book, much like all the previous ones, really fought to bring it back to four stars but it couldn’t get me back into it as well as previous ones.

Also, raise your hand if you knew there was no way Cas, Nesta, Feyre, Rhys, or the baby could die in this book because not only would it make very little narrative sense, but Ms. Maas has already revivified two MCs and cannot afford to do another one (✋).

Well I have some thoughts.

That parts that were good in this book were what earned it the 4 stars. The 400 pages of basically nothing happening were what almost gave it 3.

For a 700 page book, only about 300 pages of it felt necessary. So much of this book felt like filler and padding. The spring court section felt rushed and yet so much of this book could have been trimmed.

However, the sections that were great were what brought the 4 stars. The spring court section may have been rushed but it was still a great part of the book. The meeting of the courts? Another fantastic section. And the final battle alone earned this book a star.

Overall, it’s a good book but it simply moved too slow.
Onto the next!
