I personally love the sci-fi fantasy feel, but it did feel a little slow for me at the start. I love the way Spensa (protagonist) is developed. Excited for the second one!

Unexpected ending! Beautiful imagery of the swamp, swamp critters; interlaced with an intriguing mystery. Adults only: some sexual material

I enjoyed this book the same way I enjoy Christmas Hallmark movies. Predictable, not the best writing, but a cute, innocent love story. Quick read.

I loved and hated this book. Incredibly frustrating, while expanding my own ideas about how influential gaining an education is. Overall I would recommend it, but not as a light read.

There were a lot of emotional entries some of which made me uncomfortable, which is kinda the point of young black teens sharing their stories. I gained a appreciation and respect for those that endure racism and prejudice even today; although I didn't finish every individual story. Some topics are very serious and not appropriate for children: sexual content.

Made me laugh and cry. Ove is the kind of old man that is so grumpy and so lovable. The writing is clever and fun to read.
