i don't think we needed a third book, but it wasn't too bad overall. in fact it felt very on-the-nose regarding the political climate here in the u.s., which is pretty sad.

i think i’m going to need to read this again in the future. i just couldn’t get into it and had to force myself to read on. i could relate to natalie often, which helped, but overall is was such a messy and confusing novel. as a big shirley jackson fan, maybe this just wasn’t the right time for me to read it.

m.l. rio is brilliant at writing atmospheric novels. she has a way of making you feel tense and nervous despite not much of anything really happening. although i do wish it had been longer, i don't know exactly where she would have taken this - and people probably would have hated whatever direction she took. i loved it regardless and look forward to more from her.
