For all the praise this book receives, I feel like I read something entirely different. The characters are author-inserts - the definition of what someone thinks is cool. A boring protag, a manic pixie dream girl love interest.  The ending falls flat, plot points are introduced and never even acknowledged again, and the characters are just indescribably dumb.

If I sound bitter, it is because I am. This book starts out SO strong - creepy, intense. I was excited to read more. Then the /r/nosleep part ended (this started as a short on reddit) and things got stupid. I do not understand the love for this book, I wish I could.

Slow burn, interesting characters, but it fell pretty flat at the end. I was very dissatisfied.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 24%.
The characters, Ian and Lola, ruined this book for me. They are written to be the epitome of 'anticool.' Band shirts, weed, no kids, movie posters, blah blah blah. I hated them both and as much as I wanted to see them suffer, I couldn't bring myself to finish the book.

Ok book. Characters were flat and one-dimensional. Gore (if that is your thing) was decent, but not enough. This book was too short for it's slow start and just...lacking. It really needed more meat to create any lasting impact. I don't expect award winning writing....It is a story about giant man-eating worms, BUT...I have read other campy killer animal/bug books that helped flesh out everything a lot better.
