This book, although slow paced, felt the same as a long movie that makes you feel as if you’ve lived a second life. Rooney isn’t afraid to, in-depth, describe these main characters’ thought and experiences, no matter how ashamed we would be to understand them. This romance is gut-retching in its relatability and brutal truth. A slow-read that keeps you entranced.

While this story made me cry and genuinely fall in love with the main characters and their romance, I feel the plot was always lacking. I think John Green is a master of chemistry and dialogue, but the plot and storyline itself is stretched thin with confusing turns that are interrupted with tender scenes between our main characters that come as a relief.

One of my first classics I ever picked up and was instantly enchanted by. I was swept up and obsessed with this world. Even though it so different from our modern times, the characters and dialogue are relatable and mirror any male’s transition from boy to man.
