This was somewhat.. triggering.. to me... but the writing is great. I was invested in al the characters and their relationships and truly felt for the two girls. The ending is kinda brutal like it left me with a pain in my chest. Very grateful for this gift.

oh.. i am sad.. just drenched in pain and guilt and shame... I don't feel completely sympathetic to David - he was wrong and he hurt a lot of people but he really WAS lying to himself and didn't know what to do with his feelings he didnt know where to put it all. I hate that feeling, I've felt it myself. This was very intense

Such a sweet, sweet book. Made me think about my grandma and the ways she played with me. We had a bit of a language barrier but she always understood my needs. Tove Jansson writes so simply but it makes such an impact. You would think that writing something like "it was pretty" is boring or lack-luster, but it's all that these stories need. It was pretty. It just was. I am not a writer myself but this book made me want to write something, anything at all. I feel that urge very rarely so I appreciate that the book took me to that place. My favorite stories were The Pasture, Playing Venice, Midsummer, The Robe, The Crooks, Of Angleworms and Others, and Sophias Storm.

Fun read! I really liked the second half. Sally Jay is funny and young and dumb and knows she's being ridiculous but just can't help it. The letter from her uncle towards the end was funny. Sometimes I lost track of the days/plot but overall I really enjoyed. I need to go to Paris so I can hate it and get out of it.
