The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. Le Guin

LeGuin’s writing style is unmatched in the fantasy space. She has an incredible way of weaving stories with such rich sounding lore and history but also making them feel so personal and intimate. I liked the parallels between Arha’s story in this book and Sparrowhawk’s journeys in the first book. Just wish there was more of it overall lol

It was okay, I found a big issue with characterization, they all seemed so one dimensional and a bit childish. Plot wise it felt that there was a lot of exposition when instead we could have focused on other things, I appreciate all the questions being answered but it felt more like a manual at times than a sci fi novel. The science parts were fairly easy to understand but that was just about it.

Filled with a lot of politicking and siege tensions but none of it was particularly interesting, if it was all sorted much earlier in the book it would have been a much more enjoyable experience. The best parts were of course about the Deepness and the Hero of Ages stuff which felt like an afterthought until the end.
I hope the next book expands the world more, which I thought this book would do.

The pacing went back to ole faithful all over the place, with it starting off much slower than it ended. I don’t care much for Elayne and Perrin and this book focused a lot on them so I tried to get through that faster. Rand as always was the best part of the book and seeing him in action, now that he is fully realized of who and what he is, is amazing.

Toni Morrison has the ability to weave language in ways that truly make me amazed. Simple words but paired together just flaw you. The book plays with trauma and freedom and guilt in profound ways, I just know there are layers to it that I still haven’t realized.

This is the Wheel of Time that I was missing! I’m not sure if it’s just the culmination of Jordan’s story or Sanderson’s more fast paced writing but it finally felt like we are back in action. I was worried that I wouldn’t really like the Sanderson books but I’m so glad with this one as the characters feel just the same. So excited to pick up the next
No Elayne so I have to cheer. Egwene impressing me since last book and now this just made me love her more, she is finally Amyrlin! And Rand…oh this book worried me with how he got so dark but he can finally laugh again and we are free of LT!
